About
One person, in France, with no investors.
Nacre is built and published by Nicolas Serra, solo. No team, no funding round, no pressure to grow a number every quarter.
Where it comes from
I tried keeping a journal several times, in several apps. Each time it lasted a few weeks. The problem was not the writing: it was that nothing happened afterwards. A list of dates does not get reread.
What was missing was being able to follow a thread. What I had written about one specific decision, or about one particular person, was scattered across months and unfindable the moment I would have needed it. Nacre came out of that single gap: being able to open a quest or a person and get everything that belongs to it, in order.
The vocabulary — main quest, side quest — comes from the way my generation already talks about its own life. It is there because it describes exactly what these things are, not to make the app fun. Which is why there are no points, no levels and no badges: the day writing in your journal earns rewards, you stop writing for yourself.
The rules I hold myself to
-
Zero friction
Never more than two seconds between wanting to write and the first line. A mood on its own is a valid entry.
-
A grid, not a game
Quests are for thinking, not for scoring. Any suggestion that drifts toward gamification gets refused.
-
Your data is yours
Free, complete export, any time. Leaving has to be easy.
-
Android equal to iOS
The same features on both sides. No second-class platform.
-
AI offers, never imposes
Every AI feature is optional and disableable, and starts switched off.
-
An honest price
No aggressive nagging, no dark patterns, no cross-app ad tracking.
